About
StoryMaps are a multimedia storytelling tool that I frequently use with my clients. StoryMaps are a multimedia blogging tool that was created by ESRI (GIS fans will recognize this as the company that develops ArcGIS products). It's actually a spin-off company from their original ArcGIS-StoryMaps product (which is great for those clients who have complex GIS data layers or maps they wish to incorporate into their stories). I use this product to create stories that clients can either embed or link to using their existing blogs or websites, or, using social media. What I love about StoryMaps is that they allow for the use of maps - one of my favourite storytelling tools. Humans are fascinated by maps. Being able to show where a story is taking place helps us to connect to the place, and people behind it. Maps are powerful tools to help us do this. My Process: 1. Create a plan and/or creative brief for your story.
2. Identify and source compelling multimedia content to support your story (this could include me documenting your work with photography/videography, or by working with your existing data, photos, etc.).
3. Capture information needed to write your story (this could be a series of interview(s), accompanying your team out on a field day, speaking with partners or clients, etc.)
4. Write and edit your StoryMap.
5. Publish your StoryMap.
6. Share this StoryMap with your audiences.
Below are some examples of StoryMaps I have created for clients:
